This "kids' volume" is, in my opinion, a nightmare-quality horror story. Why, you ask? What's scary most a funny-looking cat? *shudder* Well, what's and then scary near these beautiful things?
(Well, in that location really is nothing scary about that last one. That nevertheless doesn't make information technology whatsoever less of a nightmare.)
Sometimes I have nightmares where everything goes wrong, simply I am helpless to do annihilation about information technology. What's worse, the vox of reason is gone. Well, that pretty much sums up the plot of this book. Every bit a horror story, it gets solid iii stars. Quick, somebody telephone call Stephen Rex!
Two kids are left alone on a dreary rainy 24-hour interval - which by the way is a perfect setting for a horror story. ( Sidenote: I am not that outraged with the mother leaving the kids unsupervised. In Eastern Europe parents exercise it all the time. And we survived ). All of a sudden a stranger barges in and insists that the kids join him in his games (*cue ominous music here*). And he refuses to leave.
Yes, if this creature barged into my business firm, I'd exist curled upwards in a ball in a corner, wailing and wetting myself.
The sentient fish, who appears to supervise the kids and is the sole voice of sanity here, sensibly protests (He should non be hither. He should not be about. He should not exist hither When your female parent is out!) - and immediately gets physically threatened and driveling. Terrified, it demands the abuse to stop - "This is no fun at all! Put me downwards! [...] I do NOT wish to fall!" - and narrowly avoids death. Hilarious, right?
Non to mention that, for a fish, seeing a cat is like you answering the doorbell only to greet a Grim Reaper.
Next, the terrifying delinquent Cat unleashes Things (perfect name for horror creatures) who wreck havoc on the house. So the Cat cleans up and vanishes. Basically there is zero evidence left of this horrific intrusion even if the kids tried to tell. But likely the poor little victims volition keep tranquillity. And who knows what volition happen the next time the True cat shows upwards, knowing at that place are no consequences...
*shudder* / *ominous music* / *Nataliya keeps her light on at dark to avoid nightmares*
"Should we tell her The things that went on at that place that day?"YES. YOU SHOULD, KIDS. Ever. Please DO TELL YOUR PARENTS!

Ok, enough about the story. one star rating for lazy writing and lazy rhyming. Plainly, the author spent months coming upwards with a long poem that is nigh fully monosyllabic. Hither is the issue. If children are onetime plenty to read this long poem past themselves, they should be able to read more than a syllable at a time. I know I did. Let's not be cavalier to kids - they are capable of a lot if we give them the benefit of the doubt.
At present, rhyming. I judge you run out of words speedily if you lot are express to single syllables but still need to maintain the verse rhythm. All the same, it'south not a justification for pathetic alibi of lines that go "Cold, cold wet 24-hour interval", "Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit down!", "We sat there we two", "The sun is not sunny", "Fun that is funny", "And then and so so..." That is just lazy. Just considering the story is for kids does not mean information technology'southward okay for the writing to be subpar.
The story has enough assertion points to drive you mad. "And so something went BUMP! How that bump fabricated usa jump! Nosotros looked! Then we saw him stride in on the mat! We looked! And we saw him! The True cat in the Chapeau!"
To quote (and accept slightly out of context) the great Terry Pratchett,
"Multiple assertion marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind."---------------------------------
Yeah. Not a fan of this one. Perhaps it'due south because I am a few decades by the target audition. Perhaps it'southward because the book scares the bejeezus out of me. ii stars full for the horror potential (which is higher than my initial i-star rating, then yay?). Sorry, kids. ...more

Three stars?! For The Cat in the Hat?! The very tale that it's an emblem about Dr. Seuss' work?!
Well, earlier calling the Zooks and Yooks to begin a war confronting me, let me explain my personal struggles with the tale.
While I like to think that I still have a immature eye, I can't deny that I am an adult, and sometimes my adult mode entered in loftier alert and suspicion…
…we have a stranger adult person (yes I know, he's a cat, but work with me!) who breaks into a individual house without permission, and offering to children to play with his "things", and while he cleans his mess (about likely erasing any show to exist used by the police), you are left uncertain if the kids will tell their female parent most the whole incident (inciting to prevarication to parents).
I don't know you, but I plant this quite creepy and I'd be worried if that dang cat would exist left alone with my children!
Yes, I know, information technology'southward Dr. Seuss' charming world of tales, and The Cat in the Hat would never harm a kid, but you wouldn't know that, if this would happen in our messy earth, so I am left worrying near what kind of message can get kids out from this tale…
…Trust in strangers with funny hats and don't tell truth to your parents?
Again, it'due south Dr. Seuss and I am sure that he didn't want to give that message, but since The Cat in the Hat became such popular grapheme loved by many, I wonder what was the expected role of this feline one when the story but got out.
But simply in case, my personal clear message is: Kids! Stay in school, don't do drugs and don't let strangers in your houses (much less if you're alone!) and don't become upwards in their cars neither! (I can't become more clear than that! Geez!)
A relevant fact is that Dr. Seuss wrote this book equally his first one to assistance kids to learn how to read, using only 223 words from the basic vocabulary used by children in the Commencement Grade of Principal Schoolhouse.
Yeah, I know, I was unfair with this tale, but I couldn't deny my adult worries while reading it!
By the way, the fish is an unsung hero!!!

Seuss's nigh contemptuous political piece of work describes the bike of every generation: first yous hate the automobile, and so yous rage confronting the car, and then you forgive the machine, and so you get the machine.
Sally and her brother, who, like Dostoevsky's sick man and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, will remain unnamed, join with the forcefulness of revolution, embodied by the Cat in the Hat. Together they recruit agents of change and chaos - the furious Things 1 and Two - to dismantle the oppressive world congenital by their parents.
The ensuing freedom proves too much for them, though. They plow against the Cat, and finally they capture and cage Things 1 and Two. Meanwhile the Cat in the Chapeau literally becomes the machine:
His promise of anarchic freedom is a facade. In fact he is an agent of stasis, and everything is put neatly back just as it was. The revolution will be reset. Emerge and her blood brother have go what they rebelled confronting. The idealism of another generation is crushed nether the weight of convention. And what will you practice, when your mother asks yous?

One of the things I like nigh in this classic children's story is the illustrations, they are assuming and bright. The coloring is excellent, it mostly consists of red, white, blue, and of grade black. Dr. Seuss's illustrations always stand out from other books because of this reason. The lesson is really pretty elementary, it's about honesty. I as well really like the ending part where the children are thinking if they should tell their female parent what happened while she was abroad. I would recommend this volume to anyone :D

OH STAHP.
I'g seriously starting to remember it'due south a disorder.
But it did cross my heed, that the reason I find this funny is because I could relate to the story. Everyone can, I retrieve. Information technology reminded me of so many incidents during my childhood years when my mother would get out for a while, and I and my very spirited and fidgety brothers would plough the firm into an amusement park. And so hours after when we realize our mother would be coming habitation someday soon, enter us in wink mode trying to make reparations to fallen curtains, picking upwardly everything we scattered around and chucking the rest into a cupboard whenever we ran out of cleaning time. I really liked this story, It's fun but a little bit sad that I'm only experiencing Dr. Seuss books now. I'm so going to read this to my kids anytime.

As an adult though, I discover this fanciful tale wonderfully satisfying. At that place's an old fairytale feel to it that reminds me of sprites coming in and rearranging the furniture. There'due south also a whimsical message that says, 'quit being so uptight…things will work out.' The movie Risky Business has the verbal same story and the exact same premise with Lana being the Cat and the classic line, "Sometimes you just have to say, what the f%*#." :D
So all in all, while I don't think this is the best child's book, I'm rather fond of it as an developed.

I read this to my kids. It was one of their favorite books when they were toddlers.

This is a not bad book. Anyone who is trying to brand this book controversial is being ridiculous.

Information technology was a fun book for younger children and then I, later, purchased it and read to my kids.
In 1936 on the way to a vaction in Europe, listening to the rhythm of the ship'south engines, he came up with And to Call back That I Saw Information technology on Mulberry Street, which was then promptly rejected by the showtime 43 publishers he showed it to. Somewhen in 1937 a friend published the book for him, and information technology went on to at least moderate success.
During WW II, Geisel joined the regular army and was sent to Hollywood. Helm Geisel would write for Frank Capra's Signal Corps Unit of measurement (for which he won the Legion of Merit) and practise documentaries (he won Oscar's for Hitler Lives and Design for Death). He also created a cartoon called Gerald McBoing-Boing which also won him an Oscar.
In May of 1954, Life published a report apropos illiteracy amidst school children. The report said, amid other things, that children were having trouble to read because their books were boring. This inspired Geisel's publisher, and prompted him to ship Geisel a list of 400 words he felt were important, asked him to cut the list to 250 words (the publishers idea of how many words at 1 time a get-go grader could absorb), and write a volume. 9 months later, Geisel, using 220 of the words given to him published The Cat in the Lid, which went on to instant success.
In 1960 Bennett Cerf bet Geisel $50 that he couldn't write an entire book using only fifty words. The issue was Green Eggs and Ham. Cerf never paid the $fifty from the bet.
Helen Palmer Geisel died in 1967. Theodor Geisel married Audrey Stone Diamond in 1968. Theodor Seuss Geisel died 24 September 1991.
